Gray Fox as the Cyborg Ninja

[edit] Background

Gray Fox aka. Null/Cyborg Ninja/Deepthroat (real name Frank Jaeger) was once an agent for Foxhound. He was born by german-American and Vietnamese parents who were both killed during the Vietnam war. He was forced to work hard for the war effort. His cruel tactics in war earned him several nicknames, such as The Frank Hunter.

In 1966, Big Boss put Frank in a rehab center, hoping it would keep him safe. However, while at the rehab center, he was used by the CIA for The Perfect Soldier Project. This made Frank a much more effective and efficient killer. There was a downside to this for the CIA, however. Frank had to be kept in a water tank which supressed his emotions and reset his memories.

As a teenager, Frank would become a member of FOX during the rebellion. He would meet and fight Big Boss there, but was unable to beat him. Although he was put back into his water tank that was supossed to reset his memories, the memory of his fight with Big Boss stayed with him. Eventually Null broke out of his water chamber and apprehended Big Boss again. Big Boss defeated Null again, and realised who he was.

After this, Null became a soldier in the Mozambique civil war. However, he was captured and tortured by the enemy, but was saved yet again by Big Boss. Around this time, Frank killed two people, unaware that they had a daughter. Frank adopted the child and called her Naomi, due to feeling guilty.

Sometime in the early 1990s, Frank joined Foxhound, being led at that time by Big Boss. In 1995, Frank was given the job of finding out about a weapon being developed by Outer Heaven, a military state. Frank was then caught by the enemy. This time, the new Foxhound recruit Solid Snake would save him. Snake and Frank destroyed the Metal Gear being developed.

It was revealed soon after the destruction of Metal Gear that Outer Heaven was all the work of Big Boss. After the destruction of Outer Heaven, Frank left Foxhound with Big Boss who was thought to be dead. Frank then helped Big Boss form Zanzibar Land.

Frank began to take over several nuclear disposal facilities with a new Metal Gear. They also kidnapped Dr. Kio Marv. This led to Foxhound, now led by Roy Campbell, to take action. Solid Snake came out of retirement to take down Zanzibar Land. Snake successfully took down the new Metal Gear (Metal Gear D) and fought Gray Fox. Snake won, and left Gray Fox for dead.

After Zanzibar Land had fell, Frank's body was recovered, and used for a new gene therapy project by Dr. Clark, revealed in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots to be Para-Medic. A metal exoskeleton was grafted onto his body. In 2000, Frank's adopted sister Naomi joined Foxhound and helped Frank escape. She also covered up Frank killing Dr. Clark in 2003.

Frank went to Shadow Moses during the Shadow Moses incident to find Solid Snake. He first seen him after Snake had done battle with Revolver Ocelot, and he cut off Ocelot's hand. The next time Snake seen Gray Fox was in Otacon's laboratory, after seeing him slaugher several Genome Soldiers. Here, they did battle. Afterwards, Snake realised who the cyborg ninja was.

Snake doesn't see Gray Fox again until he is fighting with Metal Gear Rex where Fox tells Snake it was he who killed Naomi's parents. Fox then sacrifices himself to take out Rex's radome and turn the tide of the battle. Before he dies, Fox delivers his famous line "We're not tools of the government, or anyone else. Fighting was the only thing I was good at, but at least I always fought for what I believed in. Snake, farewell."

At the end of the game, Snake does not tell Naomi of Fox's confession.
