Major Zero

Major Zero, first introduced in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, is the mastermind of the series, as the founder of the Patriots.
Major Zero was born in Exeter, England, at the date August 12th 1909. He had been with the SAS before he became the commander of FOX. In Operation Snake Eater, he is Naked Snake's commander, giving him basic information about the mission. Later, he disbanded FOX, but was accused for treason in 1970 when Gene went rebel with the unit.
In Metal Gear Solid 4, he appears in the final cutscene together with Big Boss when Solid Snake is about to commit suicide. He is unable to speak, move or even breath by his own, only kept alive by machines, at the age of 105. Big Boss euthanized Zero by disconnecting Zero's air supply, not by hate, but for "zero to return to zero".
