[edit] Recruiting

The biggest difference between Portable Ops and other games in the Metal Gear series was the ability to recruit and use soldiers captured from missions.

Players could capture soldiers by knocking them out, and dragging them to the truck, or by dragging them near another person on their team and getting them to take them away.

Once soldiers were captured, they could be put into several different teams, such as the Spy team where they could give you intel on things like the location of weapons.

You can also use the PSP's Wi-Fi system to obtain extra soldiers by 'scanning' for wireless hotspots, for example you can search in your house and gain one from your wireless router's network.

[edit] Multiplayer

When playing multiplayer, there are two types:

Ad hoc - Play games with people near you
Infrastructure - Play games with people around the world using the internet

There are also two different game types:

RC - (Real Combat) Means when you get killed, you lose that character and the person who killed you gains him (unless it's a special character like Big Boss or Eva, then they just need to be healed by medics), and once all your squad has died you have to leave.
VC - (Virtual Combat) Means you can get killed as many times you want and it doesn't change anything.

[edit] Hosting

When playing multiplayer, you can host games, where you can adjust the rules to your liking, such as specified game modes and maps, or restricted weapons, or even so that you can't use special players like Big Boss or Eva etc.

[edit] Cyber-Survival

This is an on line mode, which allows you to theoretically send one of your squad into the Internet, to fight other squads that have been sent in, you can earn soldiers just like RC Multiplayer, you just can't control how well your team do, it only counts on their stats, health and stamina.
