Colonel Yevgeny Borisovitch Volgin was the main antagonist of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

Volgin had inherited a vast fortune from his father, The Philosopher's Legacy, which he planned to use to fuel his military goals including the development of the Shagohod. His plan was to deploy Shagohods throughout Eastern Europe and use them to attack American soil, thus turning the Cold War into a World War.

Mid-way through the game it is hinted that Volgin is in a homosexual relationship with Major Ivan Raidenovich Raikov.

Volgin was physically very large and powerful, and his body carried a powerful current of electricity, allowing him to shock opponents. Ironically, Volgin died when a thunderbolt hit him and detonated the shells he was carrying. He was briefly mentioned again in Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops.

[edit] Rewards

If the player beats Volgin by depleting his stamina, the Cold War camo is the reward. The camo shows the American flag on one side, and the Soviet flag on the other. The enemy will hesitate to shoot Naked Snake when he is wearing this.
