Metal Gear RAY
 Design and Theft
Metal Gear RAY was the first "anti-Metal Gear", introduced in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. It was developed by the U.S. Marine Corps to combat the hundreds of Metal Gears created from the leaked design documents of Metal Gear REX. RAY was equipped with advanced targeting systems along with many deadly weapons. RAY was secretly transported aboard a disguised tanker. However, Ocelot stole it from the Marine Corps and sank the ship.
 Big Shell Incident
RAY appeared in the Big Shell incident to save the Harrier from hitting the sea. A new, mass-produced model of Metal Gear RAY was commissioned to protect Arsenal Gear. Raiden faced many of them in Arsenal Gear's rectum, and eventually gave up fighting them. When they began to malfunction as a result of a virus infecting GW's systems, Solidus eliminated several of them. Ocelot - again under Liquid's control - escaped in the last RAY.
 Guns of the Patriots
RAY returned in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Liquid Ocelot piloted the weapon to fight Snake and REX on Shadow Moses' port. RAY lost - apparently because REX had its designer helping out. Several Metal Gear RAYs could be seen attached to the sides of Liquid's "Outer Haven" submarine vessel. They were deployed to attack Mei Ling's battleship, the U.S.S. Missouri, just before the AI GW was destroyed. One of the RAYs which jumped on top of Missouri's deck was deactivated just before breaking into the ship's command tower, falling into the sea.
The original RAY was a prototype, operated by a human pilot. It had a tail, allowing it to swim effectively. The mass-produced model had no tail and was operated by an A.I. Specifically, G.W. It did, however, retain the water jet and presumably all of the original RAY's other armaments.
 Other Games
RAY also appears in the Nintendo Wii's Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It can appear in the Shadow Moses stage when the rear wall blows up. It is one of three possibilities, the others being REX and Gekko.
